Educators for Kirk

group

We believe in Kirk because he is not only the most knowledgeable and capable candidate, but more important, Kirk is a person that really cares. He not only appreciates  the knowledge that he learned growing up, but moreso the educators that impacted his life.

On a recent Friday evening a group of diverse educators met with Kirk to share their ideas of how city government can utilize city services to help students. Although the education system is under State of Hawaii authority, Kirk believes that the City still has a major impact on all individuals, teachers  and students, and that we need to begin a more collaborative approach in helping students continue to learn and become successful.

Among the ideas discussed were the following:

  • Use school parking lots for public parking when school is out.
  • Set up a “Buddy Program” with the Honolulu Police Department for schools where more monitoring and presence is needed before and after school to help insure a safe and clean environment.
  • Use parks better when school is out to help keep students busy and healthy in a safe and secure environment.
  • Partner with businesses, churches and other service organizations, and use City facilities and schools after hours to provide the homeless and at-risk students with a secure environment to do their homework.

If Kirk is elected, we hope to hold regular forums to further contribute ideas on how city government can help us educate our keiki.
